Three herders killed while tending their cattle in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State have been buried amid grief.
The victims, identified as Garzali Shaibu, Bashiru Yakubu, and Salim Abubakar, were killed on Saturday in the Aloghom area of Mangu. About 50 cattle were also reportedly killed in the attack.
A funeral prayer was held for the victims at Mangu Central Mosque on Sunday. The prayer was led by the mosque’s Chief Imam, Jibrin Ahmad Dalhat. The three victims were later buried at Mangu Cemetery.
The Plateau State chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, condemned the attack as unprovoked.

Speaking during the burial, MACBAN Secretary in Mangu, Muhammad Salihu, appealed to youths in the community to remain calm and avoid retaliatory action.
“We are calling on the government and security agencies to look into the incessant killing of our members and destruction of our property,” Salihu said.
He claimed that herders in the area had suffered more than 11 attacks and urged the government to improve security. Salihu also called for the protection of all residents, regardless of their ethnic or religious background.
Security personnel present at the burial similarly appealed for calm as investigations into the killings continued.
