Trump hits back at Merz over Iran war criticism

Donald Trump has sharply responded after German Chancellor Friedrich Merz questioned US strategy in Iran.

Donald Trump on Tuesday criticized Friedrich Merz, saying the German leader “doesn’t know what he’s talking about” after Merz accused Washington of lacking a clear plan in Iran.

Trump also claimed Merz supported Iran obtaining a nuclear weapon, though the German leader did not make that statement in his earlier remarks.

Defending his position, Trump said preventing Iran from gaining nuclear weapons was essential to global security. He added that previous leaders should have acted sooner.

Trump further attacked Germany, saying the country was performing poorly economically and politically.

The clash followed comments by Merz on Monday, when he said the United States had “no strategy” and was being humiliated by Iran’s leadership.

The exchange highlights growing tensions among Western allies over how to handle the Iran conflict.
