Trump Threatens More Strikes on Iran if Nuclear Talks Do Not Resume

The US president has warned Iran that key infrastructure could be targeted unless negotiations restart.

President Donald Trump has threatened to bomb Iran’s bridges and power plants if Tehran refuses to return to nuclear talks next week. In a Fox News interview, Trump said the US would intensify its military campaign unless Iran agrees to negotiate.

The warning came as the United States and Iran exchanged attacks for a fourth straight day. US forces carried out fresh strikes on Iranian military targets near the Strait of Hormuz, while Iran launched missiles and drones at US-linked sites in Jordan, Kuwait and Bahrain.

Trump also reversed his earlier plan to impose a 20% fee on cargo passing through the Strait of Hormuz. Instead, he said Gulf states would make “massive” trade and investment deals with the US. However, he confirmed that the US blockade on Iranian ports remains in place.

Iran rejected the threat. Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said military pressure and economic sanctions would not force Tehran back to the negotiating table. Iran also insisted it would continue to control the Strait of Hormuz.

The renewed conflict has disrupted shipping through the strategic waterway and pushed global oil prices higher.
