Vinicius Jr has signed a new six-year contract with Real Madrid, ending months of uncertainty surrounding the Brazilian winger’s future and keeping him at the Bernabeu until June 2032. Real Madrid confirmed the agreement on Thursday, describing Vinicius as “one of the most important players in one of the most successful periods in our history.”
The 26-year-old had entered the final year of his previous deal, with Arsenal understood to have been monitoring the situation closely and ready to accelerate their pursuit had he turned down Real’s terms. Talks between the two parties had been at a standstill for eighteen months before Real returned with a fresh offer on Wednesday. Vinicius responded positively to the new terms and the deal was concluded swiftly.
He marked the announcement on Instagram with characteristic warmth.
“Eight years at the Bernabeu are too short,” he wrote.
“Six more years, and then forever.”
Vinicius joined Real from Flamengo in 2018 and has since established himself as one of the most electrifying forwards in world football. Across 375 appearances for the club, he has scored 128 goals and contributed to two Champions League titles, three La Liga crowns and one Copa del Rey. He returned to the club on Monday for his first pre-season session and medical assessment after representing Brazil at the World Cup.

The extension is part of a summer of significant activity at Real under new head coach Jose Mourinho. On the same day the Vinicius deal was confirmed, Real announced the signing of Ivory Coast winger Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig for a fee worth up to £120 million. Diomande becomes Mourinho’s sixth signing of the window, following Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries, Marc Cucurella and Carlos Espi.
Real are also pursuing Manchester City and Spain midfielder Rodri, though Barcelona have now entered the race for his signature, setting up a familiar battle between the two rivals for one of the most coveted players in Europe.
For Arsenal, the search for a left-winger continues. For Vinicius, the question of his future has been answered on his own terms, at the club he has called his dream since the day he arrived.
