Wike: I Will Resign as Minister If Tinubu Loses FCT, Rivers in 2027

Nyesom Wike says he will resign as FCT Minister if President Tinubu loses Rivers State and the FCT in the 2027 election.

Nyesom Wike has made a bold promise ahead of the 2027 presidential election. The FCT Minister says he will resign if President Bola Tinubu loses Rivers State and the FCT. Wike made the statement during an engagement with the Apo Mechanics and Traders Association in Abuja. He also backed Tinubu’s re-election bid and several candidates in the FCT.

According to Wike, his political influence must produce results for the president. He said losing the FCT would mean he failed in his responsibility as minister.

“If I cannot deliver where I work, then I’m not worthy to be here,” Wike said.

He also gave a specific date for his proposed resignation.

“If I lose FCT, I’m not supposed to be FCT Minister,” he stated.

Wike added that he would resign on January 17, 2027, if Tinubu loses both Rivers and the FCT. His comments have now added more attention to the minister’s political plans.

Meanwhile, Wike revealed plans for a multi-party coalition in the FCT. The coalition aims to secure victories across different elective positions. He also endorsed Philip Aduda for the Senate and backed two House of Representatives candidates. Both candidates previously served as area council chairmen.

For the presidency, Wike made his position clear.

“Let us be clear on direction: for the Presidency, it is Bola Ahmed Tinubu!” he declared.

He said the coalition had reached a firm agreement to work together. The 2027 presidential election is scheduled for January 16, 2027.
