Dauda Lawal, Governor of Zamfara State, distributed 25 armoured personnel carriers, surveillance drones, and operational equipment to Nigerian Army troops. The event took place at Government House in Gusau on February 18, 2026. Minister of Defence General Christopher Musa attended the ceremony.

Governor’s Remarks on Security Crisis

Lawal highlighted the long standing security issues in Zamfara. He described how banditry disrupted rural life, farming, roads, markets, and the economy. “For years, Zamfara State faced a security crisis disrupting life,” Lawal said. He explained the shift from fragmented responses to structured reforms through the Zamfara State Security Trust Fund.

Purpose of the Equipment

Lawal stated that the APCs enhanced troop protection in high-risk areas. Additionally, he noted the drones improved reconnaissance and situational awareness.

“Aerial surveillance improves situational awareness, assists terrain assessment, and supports more precise coordination,” Lawal remarked. He urged military commanders to prioritize intelligence guided deployment and maintenance.

Previous Support Measures

Lawal recounted earlier contributions. These included 150 Hilux vehicles to security agencies, 20 Toyota Buffaloes, over 600 motorcycles, and 60 Hilux vehicles plus motorcycles to community guards. Moreover he emphasized that these efforts strengthened collaboration and grassroots intelligence.

Minister’s Commendation

Musa praised Lawal’s commitment. He noted that such actions transcended party lines. “From what I have seen, if we continue like this in the second term, Zamfara will look like Dubai,” Musa stated. Furthermore he highlighted the courage in allocating resources and the message it sent to criminals.

Broader Impact

The handover reinforced federal-state synergy against insecurity. Lawal honored troops’ sacrifices and pledged ongoing support for their operations. Meanwhile Sulaiman Bala Idris, spokesperson for the governor, confirmed the equipment details in a statement.
