Greenland and Denmark Say No to Donald Trump’s Hospital Ship Offer

US President Donald Trump announced plans to send a hospital ship to Greenland. He made the statement on Truth Social late Saturday. Trump claimed the move would help sick people not receiving care in the Arctic territory.

Trump’s Social Media Post

Trump wrote that a great hospital boat headed to Greenland. He linked the offer to his interest in acquiring the island for national security. However the announcement drew quick backlash from Greenland and Denmark.

Greenland’s Firm Rejection

Jens-Frederik Nielsen posted on Facebook in response. Nielsen, who serves as Greenland’s prime minister, stated, “That will be ‘no thanks’ from us.” He emphasized that Greenland’s public healthcare system provides free treatment to all citizens.

Additionally, Nielsen urged Trump to engage in dialogue rather than social media outbursts. He added, “Talk to us, not at us.”

Denmark’s Official Stance

Troels Lund Poulsen echoed the rejection. Poulsen, Denmark’s defence minister, told public broadcaster DR that Greenland did not need foreign medical aid. Moreover he refuted Trump’s claim of denied treatment, stating, “Greenland does not need medical assistance from other countries.” Meanwhile Danish officials noted no prior awareness of the plan.

Broader Diplomatic Tensions

The incident deepened Arctic rifts. Trump repeatedly threatened to seize Greenland, prompting rejections from Nuuk and Copenhagen. Meanwhile Nielsen contrasted Greenland’s free system with US healthcare, where visits cost money. Meanwhile allies upheld Greenlandic sovereignty amid NATO concerns.
