King Charles and Queen Camilla US visit to proceed after shooting

Buckingham Palace has confirmed King Charles III and Queen Camilla will continue with their planned US visit despite the Washington DC shooting incident.

King Charles III and Queen Camilla will begin their official state visit to the United States on Monday as scheduled.

Buckingham Palace said the decision followed discussions between British and US officials throughout Sunday. The palace added that the King and Queen were grateful to those who worked quickly to keep the visit on track.

The announcement comes after a shooting near the ballroom entrance of the Washington Hilton Hotel during a high-profile event on Saturday night.

Authorities said a suspect identified as Cole Allen is in custody. A United States Secret Service officer was injured but is expected to recover. No other injuries were reported.

Royal sources said only minor adjustments may be made to one or two engagements, while the wider schedule remains unchanged.

The trip includes stops in New York, Virginia and Washington DC, with a state dinner at the White House and events linked to America’s 250th anniversary.

The visit will now go ahead as a key symbol of continued UK-US ties despite the security scare.
