‘Now you know what it feels to be prosecuted’ — Sowore jabs Malami

Sowore and Malami

Omoyele Sowore, activist and publisher of Sahara Reporters, has taunted Abubakar Malami, former attorney-general of the federation (AGF), over his ongoing legal troubles.

Sowore made the remark during an interaction with Malami at a court premises in Abuja.

“Now you know what it feels to be prosecuted,” Sowore told the former minister.

Malami and his son, Abdulaziz, are currently facing multiple charges, including allegations of money laundering and illegal possession of firearms.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has filed a 16-count charge accusing Malami, his wife and son of concealing over ₦1.014 billion through corporate accounts and luxury property acquisitions in Abuja, Kano and Kebbi.

Assets worth over ₦212 billion are reportedly under investigation.

The federal government had earlier included terrorism financing charges in the case but later withdrew them, narrowing the prosecution to firearm-related offences in Abuja and Kebbi.

During the exchange, Sowore referenced his own past encounters with the justice system, suggesting that Malami is now experiencing what others faced while he was in office.

“The system is doing to you now,” he said.

Sowore also said the situation reflects the changing dynamics of power.

“The table has its own way of turning,” he added.

Malami served as AGF under former President Muhammadu Buhari from 2015 to 2023.
