Iran threatens to attack US forces in Strait of Hormuz

Tehran escalates threat as Washington prepares major naval escort operation.

Iran has warned it will attack US forces if they enter the Strait of Hormuz, sharply escalating tensions after Donald Trump announced a plan to escort commercial ships through the route.

A senior Iranian commander, Ali Abdollahi, said any “foreign armed force,” especially the US military, would be targeted if it approaches the strait. He insisted Iran controls the waterway and that all vessel movements must be coordinated with its forces.

The warning comes as US Central Command confirmed it will deploy about 15,000 personnel, warships, and more than 100 aircraft to support “Project Freedom,” a US-led mission aimed at restoring safe navigation.

The Strait of Hormuz carries roughly a quarter of the world’s seaborne oil, making the standoff a major risk to global energy markets and regional stability.

With both sides holding firm, the situation is now a high-stakes test of military resolve and diplomacy.
