Air defenses activated as fresh attacks raise fears of wider regional conflict.
The United Arab Emirates says its air defence systems are actively intercepting missiles and drones launched from Iran, as tensions intensify in the Gulf. Authorities confirmed explosions heard across parts of the country were caused by successful interceptions of ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles.
Officials did not specify the number of projectiles in the latest attack. However, the UAE said it had already intercepted 15 missiles and four drones in a similar assault a day earlier. One drone strike triggered a large fire at the Fujairah Petroleum Industries Zone and injured three foreign workers, while another incident targeted an oil tanker near the Strait of Hormuz.
The UAE government has urged residents to remain in safe locations and warned it reserves the right to respond to what it described as “treacherous” attacks. Iran has not issued an official statement, though state-linked media blamed rising tensions on U.S. military actions in the region.
The attacks come amid an ongoing conflict involving the United States and Iran, with maritime security and energy supplies increasingly at risk.
