NDLEA Confirms Multi-Country Operation
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have arrested a suspected Nigerian drug baron, Amadi Simon, in Switzerland. The arrest followed a joint operation with the United States Drug Enforcement Administration and European security agencies.
NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, confirmed the development in a statement on Thursday.
Coordinated Arrests Across Locations
Authorities carried out arrests on April 28, 2026. Officers apprehended Simon in Switzerland. They also arrested his alleged associates in Nigeria.
Jecinta Amara Ikechi, 34, was arrested in Anambra State. Blessing Ngozi Amadi, 28, was taken into custody in Agbor, Delta State.
Investigation Reveals Financial Network
Investigators linked the suspect to a large money laundering network. The group allegedly handled funds from drug trafficking and other crimes.
Officials said the syndicate used shell companies and cryptocurrency wallets. It also operated several bank accounts across countries.
Properties Linked to the Suspect
Authorities traced several luxury properties to the suspect and his associates. These include Jovi Hotel in Asaba and Jovi Hotel and Suites in Agbor.
Investigators also identified Jovi Apartment in Mabushi, Abuja, as part of the assets.
Assets Frozen During Ongoing Probe
The agency has frozen several bank accounts tied to the network. It also blocked related cryptocurrency addresses.
Officials said the investigation is still ongoing.
NDLEA Praises Global Cooperation
NDLEA Chairman, Mohamed Buba Marwa, described the arrest as a major breakthrough. He stressed the need for global cooperation in fighting drug crimes.
Marwa praised international partners for their support. He said shared intelligence helped expose the network.
Commitment to Fighting Drug Crimes
The NDLEA reaffirmed its commitment to tackling drug trafficking and financial crimes. The agency said it will continue working with global partners.
Officials also warned that Nigeria will not become a safe haven for criminal networks.
