Trump drops $10 billion lawsuit against IRS

Donald Trump has formally moved to end his high-profile lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service.

Donald Trump informed a federal judge on Monday that he is dropping his $10 billion lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service.

According to the court filing, Trump’s legal team argued that the case was still in its early stages, meaning the president did not need court approval to dismiss it.

The lawsuit was originally filed after a government contractor pleaded guilty in 2023 to stealing and leaking the tax records of Trump and other wealthy Americans to media organizations in 2019 and 2020.

Reports previously suggested Trump planned to withdraw the lawsuit as part of discussions surrounding a proposed $1.776 billion compensation fund for individuals who claim they were unfairly targeted during the Biden administration. However, the latest filing did not mention any settlement agreement or compensation arrangement.

The decision marks a major shift in one of the most closely watched legal battles involving Trump and federal agencies in recent years.
