Israel launched one of its heaviest bombardments in Lebanon since the April ceasefire, leaving dozens dead.
At least 31 people, including children, were killed after Israel intensified air strikes across southern and eastern Lebanon, according to Lebanon’s health ministry.
The Israeli military said it struck over 100 targets linked to Hezbollah, including weapons storage sites and command centres. The attacks followed comments by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who vowed to increase military pressure on Hezbollah.
Lebanese officials said several homes were destroyed in the Bekaa Valley village of Mashghara, where rescue teams pulled survivors and victims from the rubble overnight. The strikes also reportedly hit areas near the historic Beaufort Castle site in southern Lebanon.
The renewed violence comes despite a US-brokered ceasefire agreed in April. Both Israel and Hezbollah have repeatedly accused each other of violating the truce through continued rocket, drone and air attacks.
The escalating conflict has forced more civilians to flee southern Lebanon, raising fears that the fragile ceasefire could collapse completely.
