Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Party, has unveiled Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election, promising a partnership built on shared responsibility and mutual respect.
Obi made the announcement on Saturday after receiving the party’s presidential flag in Abuja.
The former Anambra governor said he chose Kwankwaso because of his commitment to education, security and national development.
“It is in this vein that I graciously accept the affirmation as the candidate of this great party,” Obi said.
“And in the same spirit, I invite Dr Rabiu Kwankwaso to join me as vice-presidential candidate so we can rescue this country.”
Obi described the former Kano governor as a leader who believes in empowering young people through education.
“I will show you one person who believes in education, one person who believes that a child of somebody should be trained to become somebody,” he said.
“He believes in education, he believes in security, and we will work together to ensure that it happens.”
The NDC candidate assured supporters that Kwankwaso would play an active role in government and would not be sidelined if they win the election.
“It will not be a government where one will be found wanting,” Obi said.
“We will be partners, he will not be a spare tyre.”
Obi urged Nigerians to support the NDC ticket, saying the party remained committed to building a better country.
“I assure you and I urge you, please join us in building this new Nigeria that is possible,” he said.
