Delhi fire kills 21, foreign nationals among victims

At least 21 people have died after a devastating fire tore through a multi-storey building in India’s capital, New Delhi.

A major fire in the Malviya Nagar area of south Delhi has killed at least 21 people and injured dozens more, according to local authorities.

Several of the victims were foreign nationals from South Asian and African countries who had travelled to India for medical treatment or to accompany relatives receiving care. The building reportedly operated as a bed-and-breakfast facility for patients and their families near a private hospital.

More than 40 people were rescued and taken to hospital after the blaze broke out on Wednesday morning. Witnesses said the fire spread rapidly, forcing some occupants to jump from upper floors to escape. Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the fire.

The incident is one of the deadliest fires recorded in Delhi in recent years. Officials are investigating whether the building had the required permits and whether safety regulations were violated.

Authorities have launched a full investigation as concerns grow over building safety standards and fire regulation enforcement in Delhi.
