Seven killed after drone strikes bus in Russian-controlled Donetsk

A drone attack on a passenger bus has left seven people dead and 11 others injured in Russian-controlled eastern Ukraine.

Seven people were killed after a drone struck a passenger bus travelling through the Russian-controlled Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine, according to local authorities.

Denis Pushilin, the Kremlin-backed leader of the region, said the attack occurred early Wednesday while the bus was travelling between Moscow and Simferopol in Russian-occupied Crimea. Eleven other passengers were injured and are receiving medical treatment.

The incident came as Russian officials reported intercepting more than 350 drones overnight across several regions. Flight operations were temporarily disrupted at St Petersburg’s Pulkovo Airport due to the attacks.

The latest escalation follows one of Russia’s largest aerial assaults of the war on Tuesday. An attack which Ukrainian officials said killed at least 22 people and injured more than 100 others. Moscow has vowed to continue what it describes as “systematic strikes” against Ukrainian targets.

The attack highlights the intensifying cycle of drone and missile strikes as the war between Russia and Ukraine continues.
