Fresh Israeli air strikes on Beirut have raised fears of renewed escalation despite a recent ceasefire agreement.
Israel launched air strikes on southern Beirut on Sunday, marking the first attack on the Lebanese capital since a US-brokered truce was reached last week.
According to Lebanese state media, two apartment buildings in the Dahieh district, a stronghold of the Iran-backed group Hezbollah, were hit. The strikes killed two people and injured at least 17 others.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the operation targeted Hezbollah facilities in response to projectiles fired into Israeli territory. The Israeli military said it intercepted two rockets launched from Lebanon. Hezbollah has not commented on the claims.
The attack comes days after a ceasefire mediated by the United States sought to reduce tensions between Israel and Hezbollah. Washington had previously pressured Israel to limit attacks on Beirut amid wider diplomatic efforts involving Iran and regional stability.
The latest strikes have intensified concerns that the fragile ceasefire could unravel.
