A potential Iran war deal may be close, but Tehran says key issues remain unresolved.
US President Donald Trump has claimed that a deal to end the conflict with Iran is nearing completion, saying negotiators have reached a “great settlement” and that final documents could be ready within days.
Speaking to reporters, Trump said the proposed agreement would ensure Iran never develops a nuclear weapon. He added that a signing ceremony could take place in Europe and suggested the Strait of Hormuz would reopen once the deal is signed.
Iran, however, rejected suggestions that an agreement has been reached. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei described reports of a final deal as “speculative” and said “nothing has been finalised.” He noted that negotiations are ongoing and that Iran still opposes several US demands.
The development comes after months of conflict between the US, Israel and Iran. Despite a ceasefire agreed in April, both sides have continued exchanging strikes, including attacks earlier this week.
Global oil prices fell after Trump’s comments, reflecting growing market hopes that tensions in the Middle East could ease if a deal is reached.
Negotiations continue as Washington and Tehran remain divided on several key issues despite renewed hopes for a diplomatic breakthrough.
