Officials ordered a shelter-in-place at parts of the Pentagon following a reported hazardous materials incident.
Several areas of the Pentagon were placed under a shelter-in-place order on Thursday after building monitoring systems detected a potential air-quality hazard. Multiple floors and hallways were temporarily restricted as emergency teams responded to the situation.
According to Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell, the alert was triggered by systems designed to monitor building safety. Authorities said precautionary measures were implemented while officials investigate the source and severity of the air-quality issue.
The Arlington County Fire Department confirmed that its hazardous materials team was deployed to support the Pentagon Force Protection Agency’s Hazmat Team. No injuries have been reported, and officials have not yet disclosed the cause of the incident.
Investigations are ongoing as emergency teams continue to assess the situation inside the Pentagon.
