Fifa Suspends Folarin Balogun’s One-Match Ban Ahead of USA World Cup Clash

The USA striker is available again after Fifa suspended the automatic ban from his World Cup red card.

Fifa has suspended the one-match ban handed to United States striker Folarin Balogun, allowing him to play in the team’s next 2026 FIFA World Cup match. The decision follows his red card during the group-stage victory over Bosnia.

Balogun was dismissed in the 64th minute after a challenge involving Bosnia defender Muharemović. Referee Raphael Claus initially showed a red card after reviewing the incident on the pitchside monitor following a VAR recommendation.

Under Fifa regulations, a red card normally carries an automatic one-match suspension. However, the governing body has the power to suspend or extend disciplinary sanctions. A similar decision was made before the tournament when Cristiano Ronaldo’s remaining suspension from a World Cup qualifier was suspended, allowing him to feature for Portugal.

Balogun, who has already scored twice at the tournament, is now free to continue leading the USA’s World Cup campaign.
