Experts say the strange metal spheres found on a Queensland beach are likely debris from a space launch vehicle.
The Australia Space Agency (ASA) has identified the likely source of six mysterious metal balls that washed ashore at Forrest Beach in northern Queensland. The agency said the objects appear to be pressure vessels from a space launch vehicle that recently re-entered Earth’s atmosphere.
The ASA is now working with international authorities to confirm which rocket the debris came from. Meanwhile, Queensland emergency services have maintained a 50-metre exclusion zone around the objects and warned the public not to touch them because they could contain hazardous substances.
The discovery sparked widespread curiosity, with some experts suggesting the spheres could be propellant tanks from a spacecraft. Similar space debris has previously washed up in Australia, including a rocket component from India’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle in 2023.
Authorities have urged anyone who finds similar objects to stay away and contact emergency services immediately.
