Anambra Police Confirm Surrender of Suspect in 12-Year-Old Boy’s Death

The suspect turned herself in after days of police operations and community engagement.

The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed that the principal suspect in the alleged killing of a 12-year-old boy has surrendered to authorities. Police said the suspect voluntarily reported to the Neni Divisional Police Headquarters. This was only after a sustained manhunt led by the Command’s Safe School Protection Squad.

Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga said the suspect is now in custody and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka, where investigations will be completed. However, the command assured the public that justice would be pursued.

Incident Sparked Public Outrage

The case involves Chinedu Emmanuel, who reportedly died after allegedly being severely flogged by a teacher at a school in Adazi-Ani, Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State. The incident triggered widespread condemnation, with residents and child rights advocates demanding accountability.

Police also commended the cooperation of community leaders and residents, urging the public to remain calm. Furthermore, everyone was encouraged to continue providing useful information to support the investigation.

The suspect’s surrender marks a significant development as authorities continue efforts to establish the full circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
