The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has dismantled an illegal gun-making syndicate and arrested three suspected cultists during an intelligence-led operation.
Police said the operation formed part of ongoing efforts to tackle violent crime and stop the spread of illegal firearms across the state.
During the raid, officers uncovered a suspected gun fabrication network believed to have supplied weapons to criminal groups. Investigators also arrested three suspected cultists connected to the operation.
The command disclosed that another suspect, believed to be a welder who regularly assisted in producing the firearms, escaped before officers arrived. Police said efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest him while dismantling the remaining members of the syndicate.
Commissioner of Police Baba Mohammed Azare praised the officers involved for their professionalism, vigilance and commitment throughout the operation.
He reaffirmed the command’s determination to identify, dismantle and prosecute criminal groups involved in illegal arms production, cult activities and other violent offences.
Azare also thanked residents for providing useful intelligence that contributed to the success of the operation. He encouraged the public to remain vigilant and continue reporting suspicious movements and criminal activities through the appropriate channels.
The police command assured residents that intelligence-driven operations would continue to strengthen public safety and keep criminal elements out of communities across Akwa Ibom.
