President Bola Tinubu has inaugurated a Committee on Strategy, Conflict Resolution and Mobilisation to address internal disputes within the All Progressives Congress as preparations for the 2027 general elections begin.
The inauguration took place on Wednesday in Lagos. This was disclosed in a statement signed by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Tinubu appointed Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, as chairman of the committee. Meanwhile, former APC National Legal Adviser, Muiz Banire, will serve as member-secretary.
APC Committee Includes Governors, Ministers
The committee draws membership from across the party’s leadership structure. As a result, it includes serving governors, ministers, and other key stakeholders.
Members include Senator Adamu Aliero. Others are governors AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara, Hope Uzodimma of Imo, Hyacinth Alia of Benue, and Umar Namadi of Jigawa.
In addition, the list features Bassey Otu of Cross River, Abiodun Oyebanji of Ekiti, and Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta. Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara are also members.
Furthermore, the committee includes Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola, Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle, and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello.
Buni Outlines Committee’s Focus
Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Buni thanked President Tinubu for the confidence placed in the committee. He assured that members would carry out the assignment with dedication and responsibility.
According to Buni, the committee will prioritise strategic engagement and wide consultations. Consequently, it aims to build an inclusive and result-driven conflict resolution framework.
“We will develop a system that gives everyone, especially aggrieved members, a sense of belonging,” he said. “Similarly, we will adopt proactive solutions to address potential threats.”
Call for Unity Ahead of 2027
Buni also urged committee members to place the party’s collective interest above personal ambition. Therefore, he stressed the need for unity as the party prepares for the next election cycle.
The inauguration followed Tinubu’s earlier call for unity within the APC. The president made the appeal during the party’s 15th National Executive Committee meeting held on December 19 in Abuja.
Party leaders believe the committee will help stabilise the APC. Ultimately, they expect it to strengthen internal cohesion ahead of 2027.
