Tension as suspected terrorists set police station ablaze in Ondo

A violent Ipele attack has thrown the community into panic, forcing many residents to flee into neighbouring towns and nearby bushes.

Local accounts indicate that the incident caused widespread fear, as gunmen moved through the area and fired shots, leaving residents scrambling for safety.

According to one resident, “the attackers, who numbered about twenty, stormed the community around 10 pm, shooting sporadically and forcing residents scampering for safety.”

Ipele Attack Targets Police Divisional Station

During the Ipele attack, the assailants reportedly focused on the local police facility, which they later set on fire.

“The assailants targeted the police facility in the community, which they eventually set ablaze during the attack,” the resident said.

He further stated, “They came in commando style and operated for several hours before fleeing the scene.”

Another resident described the intensity of the assault, saying, “Security personnel who rushed to the scene were overwhelmed by the intensity of the assault hence they had a field day.”

Ipele Attack Drives Residents Into Bushes

A separate source described the incident as highly coordinated and frightening.

“It was a terrorist attack. The attackers came into the Ipele community in a commando style and began to shoot sporadically before attacking the Police Divisional Station in Ipele,” he said.

He added, “It was a serious incident because many of us had to flee into the bush. The sounds from the attack were terrifying, and none of us could withstand it.”

For now, the motive behind the Ipele attack remains unknown. However, residents confirmed that many people have fled the community out of fear.

Security Deployment Ordered After Ipele Attack

Meanwhile, a chief in the community described the situation as deeply frightening.

“The incident was terrifying; many of our people have escaped into nearby bushes to avoid being killed,” he said.

Following the attack, top security officials in the state ordered the deployment of additional personnel to the affected area to restore calm.

When contacted, the state police spokesperson, Jimoh Abayomi, confirmed the attack but said details remained sketchy. He added that the command would provide more information later.
