Ariana Grande will step away from public appearances after her Eternal Sunshine tour, citing endless public scrutiny. Here’s why the singer made the decision.
Ariana Grande has announced that she will take a break from public life after finishing her Eternal Sunshine Tour next month. The singer also pulled out of the upcoming London production of Sunday in the Park with George.
Her team said the decision followed “endless, ongoing public scrutiny.” Many fans have since flooded social media with love and support, making #WeLoveYouAriana trend. The news has also sparked fresh conversations about the pressure celebrities face.
The announcement came shortly after Ariana’s Petal
The announcement came shortly after the release of her new album, Petal.
In one of the album’s music videos, Grande plays a performer who constantly faces harsh criticism. She is told she is “not good enough,” “desperate,” and that she “should get some work done.” Moments later, she is mocked for having “too much work done.”
The character finally fights back by taking a chainsaw to her critics. Many fans believe the video reflects Ariana’s real-life experience with online judgment.
Ariana will finish her tour before stepping away
Meanwhile, her representative told People magazine that Ariana wants to finish her tour “on a high note, both healthily and happily.” The spokesperson added that she deserves “a much-deserved break from public-facing work and appearances, which has led to endless, ongoing public scrutiny.”
They also explained that her concerts are physically demanding because of the intense choreography and athletic performances she delivers every night. Even so, Ariana remains committed to completing every remaining show before stepping away.
Her tour continues with performances in Chicago before moving to London’s O2 Arena for ten shows. The final concert is scheduled for September 1.
Ariana had also been expected to star alongside Jonathan Bailey in the London revival of Sunday in the Park with George. However, the production company confirmed she had withdrawn from the project. A spokesperson said,
“We know this cannot have been an easy decision, and she makes it with our complete understanding and support.”
No replacement has been announced yet, but fans are already wishing the pop star a peaceful and well-deserved break.
