Coalition Praises Army Leadership and Strategic Changes
A coalition of Civil Society Organisations under Nigeria Integrity Watch has praised the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, for reforms aimed at improving the Nigerian Army’s effectiveness.
In a statement issued on Monday, the group described Shaibu’s leadership as transformative.
It said his reforms have helped strengthen operations and improve military performance across the country.
The coalition’s National Convener, John Nangi, signed the statement.
Reforms Address Long-Standing Challenges
The group said the Army leadership has tackled key issues such as desertion, low morale, and premature retirements.
It noted that the reforms have improved discipline, professionalism, and combat readiness.
According to the coalition, these changes have created a stronger institutional structure within the military.
Command Philosophy Drives New Direction
The group highlighted Shaibu’s “Command Philosophy” as a major step in reshaping the Army.
It said the framework focuses on more than weapons and equipment.
The philosophy aims to improve professionalism, agility, resilience, and operational performance.
The coalition added that Army leaders now recognise that traditional military tactics alone cannot address emerging threats.
Focus Expands to Intelligence and Technology
The group said the Army has increased focus on intelligence gathering and surveillance.
It also pointed to stronger efforts in target acquisition and reconnaissance.
According to the coalition, the military has invested in cyber operations, drones, and satellite intelligence systems.
These tools aim to improve response capacity and strengthen security operations.
PROSE Framework Builds New Military Culture
The coalition also praised the introduction of PROSE.
The framework stands for Professional Excellence, Robust Administration, Operational Readiness, Strategic Cooperation, and Exemplary Leadership.
It said the five pillars now shape a stronger culture within the Army.
The group described the initiative as a key part of institutional reform.
Soldier-First Policy Improves Welfare
The coalition commended the Army’s “Soldier-First Culture.”
It said the policy focuses on troop welfare, motivation, training, and proper equipment.
According to the group, better welfare and stronger standards have reduced indiscipline, absenteeism, and early retirements.
Support for Troops Continues
The coalition praised troops involved in counter-insurgency and anti-banditry operations.
It urged Nigerians to support security agencies with timely and credible intelligence.
The group said ongoing reforms could improve national security and restore public trust in the armed forces.
The Nigerian Army continues internal security operations in several parts of the country.
These include operations against Boko Haram, ISWAP, armed bandits, kidnappers, and other violent groups.
