Brazil have suffered a major setback after defender Eder Militao was ruled out of the 2026 World Cup through injury.
Eder Militao will miss the tournament after undergoing surgery on a serious thigh injury. The Real Madrid star reportedly consulted a specialist in Finland before doctors confirmed immediate surgery was required.
The operation was carried out successfully, but Militao is not expected to return until October at the earliest. That timeline rules him out of this summer’s 2026 FIFA World Cup.
It is a painful blow for Brazil national football team, who were expected to rely on the experienced centre-back. Militao previously represented Brazil at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Real Madrid have also been hit hard, with several players already sidelined during the final stretch of the season. Injuries to key names have added pressure in domestic competition.
Militao’s latest setback continues a difficult run of fitness problems, with multiple injuries and surgeries affecting recent seasons.
Brazil must now reshape their defence, while Militao begins another long road to recovery.
