France have unveiled their 2026 World Cup squad, with Eduardo Camavinga among the biggest omissions.
France national football team coach Didier Deschamps has confirmed his final World Cup squad ahead of the 2026 tournament, with stars like Kylian Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé included.
However, Eduardo Camavinga was left out of the squad in a major surprise. Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier also failed to make the final list after losing his starting place at club level.
Deschamps said selection was based mainly on current form and playing time.
“The main criteria is sporting performance,” he said. “Lucas Chevalier may be disappointed, but he hasn’t played for several months.”
Lens winger Florian Thauvin was another notable absentee despite being nominated for Ligue 1 Player of the Season.
The tournament will mark Deschamps’ final competition as France coach. He announced earlier this year that he will step down after the World Cup, ending a successful spell that included winning the 2018 World Cup and reaching the 2022 final.
Zinedine Zidane is widely expected to replace him after the tournament.
France’s squad includes experienced names such as N’Golo Kanté, Aurélien Tchouaméni and Marcus Thuram, alongside rising talents like Désiré Doué and Rayan Cherki.
France head into the tournament as one of the favourites to win the World Cup once again.
