Security forces have launched a rescue mission after passengers were abducted in Kogi State.
The Kogi State Police Command says seven suspects have been arrested following a kidnapping attack on the Ayere–Kabba Road in Kogi State.
According to police spokesperson ASP Saliu Afusat, the incident happened around 8:30 p.m. on April 13, 2026, when armed gunmen intercepted a Toyota Hiace bus travelling from Lagos to Abuja. The attack occurred in Kabba Local Government Area.
Police said one passenger was rescued during a swift response by security operatives. The vehicle has also been recovered and moved to a police facility for forensic examination.
Commissioner of Police Naziru Kankarofi confirmed that the seven suspects are in custody and assisting investigators at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
Authorities added that joint teams involving the police, military and other security agencies are carrying out bush-combing and search-and-rescue operations to secure the release of the remaining victims.
Families and relatives of missing passengers have been asked to report to the SCID headquarters in Lokoja, especially the anti-kidnapping unit, to support identification efforts and the ongoing investigation.
Kidnappings on highways remain a major security concern in several parts of Nigeria, with travellers often targeted on inter-state routes.
Police say operations are ongoing and promised that those responsible will face the full weight of the law.
