Mbah tours major infrastructure projects
Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has inspected major road and infrastructure projects executed by his administration ahead of their inauguration.
The inspection took place over the weekend as part of efforts to assess progress on key developments across the state.
Some of the projects visited include the 40-kilometre Owo-Ubahu-Amankanu-Umualor-Neke-Ikem dual carriageway, the 14.5-kilometre Amechi Idodo-Oruku-Amagunze Road, the New Enugu Smart City, and the Enugu International Hospital on Rangers Avenue.
Mbah said the projects align with his administration’s broader economic development plan.
Governor links projects to economic growth
As he approaches three years in office on May 29, Mbah said the infrastructure projects are designed to help grow Enugu’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion.
He explained that the goal is to position Enugu as a leading destination for investment, business, tourism, and quality living.
According to him, infrastructure remains central to achieving that vision.
He said better roads and urban development would improve movement, trade, and productivity.
40km road opens new route to northern Nigeria
Speaking during the inspection, Mbah described the 40-kilometre dual carriageway as a strategic route.
He said the road creates a new gateway to northern Nigeria.
According to him, residents can now travel to North Central states without passing through 9th Mile or Opi Nsukka.
He added that the road could reduce travel time and improve access to Abuja.
Mbah stressed that the project offers more than transport benefits.
Road project to support farming and trade
The governor said the new road will open fresh economic opportunities for nearby communities.
He explained that it connects farmers to their farmlands and improves access to markets.
According to him, easier movement will help residents transport agricultural produce without major delays.
He said the surrounding land represents strong economic potential for farming and wealth creation.
This, he noted, could improve livelihoods across the region.
Governor praises contractors for project speed
Mbah expressed satisfaction with the pace of work by China Communications Construction Company.
He said the contractors have worked day and night to meet project deadlines.
According to him, the government gave a strict timeline for delivery by the end of May.
He added that prompt funding from the state helped support progress.
Mbah said the road could be ready for inauguration within weeks if work continues on schedule.
Focus remains on quality and rural roads
The governor said his administration values both speed and quality.
He commended the construction company for maintaining strong standards on the project.
Mbah also reaffirmed his government’s commitment to rural road expansion.
He highlighted the ongoing dualisation of the 44.1-kilometre Enugu–Ugwogo Nike-Opi Nsukka Road.
He also referenced completed and newly flagged-off roads across several communities.
According to him, these projects will expand economic opportunities for residents.
Smart City and road expansion progress
At the completed Amechi Idodo-Oruku-Amagunze Road, Mbah announced plans to extend the route to the Nkanu East Council Headquarters.
He also inspected progress at the New Enugu Smart City.
The governor said the initial 6.5-kilometre primary dual carriageway has been completed.
Construction is ongoing on secondary and tertiary roads within the first 1,000 hectares of the planned 10,000-hectare smart city.
He said the project will support modern urban growth and attract long-term investment into Enugu State.
