Messi and Ronaldo to Play Together at Tevez’s Farewell Match

Carlos Tevez has revealed that Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have both agreed to play on the same team at his farewell match, scheduled for December 2026 at La Bombonera in Buenos Aires. The agreement sets up what would be the first time in history that the two greatest footballers of their generation share a pitch on the same side.

Tevez made the announcement himself, describing the moment he reached out to Ronaldo directly.

“It has always been my dream to see Cristiano and Leo playing for one team,” he said.

“They’re the two greatest players ever. I contacted them, especially Cristiano. I told him, ‘Cristiano, I want you and Leo on the same side for my farewell. Let the world see that magic once.’ He said he would be there. Leo wasn’t hard to convince either. Both have given me the green light.”

Messi recently announced his retirement from international football following Argentina’s World Cup final defeat to Spain in July. Ronaldo suggested earlier this year that his current season at Al-Nassr would likely be his last as a professional. Tevez’s farewell game in December would fall at the very end of what both men have indicated may be the final chapter of their playing careers.

La Bombonera, home of Boca Juniors and one of the most iconic stadiums in world football, will host a moment that generations of fans spent two decades insisting could never happen. For twenty years, Messi and Ronaldo existed as rivals. They played for different clubs, different nations, yet the same impossible standard.

On one night in Buenos Aires, they will be teammates. “I can’t wait,” Tevez said.

“This one is going to be emotional”.
