Mikel Arteta has reached an agreement on a new contract with Arsenal, committing his future to the Premier League champions and ending speculation over his position beyond the current season.
The 42-year-old’s previous deal was due to expire at the end of the campaign. Talks had been underway for several months, with both sides increasingly confident that an extension would be completed.
Reports earlier indicated that negotiations were nearing a conclusion, and the final terms have now been settled. Arsenal have not disclosed the duration of the agreement, although it is understood that the contract could keep Arteta at the Emirates Stadium until at least 2029. That would take his tenure beyond a decade since he first took charge.

Arteta was appointed in December 2019 after Arsenal dismissed Unai Emery. His early years in the role involved rebuilding the squad and restoring consistency. This was before the club’s progress culminated in a return to the Premier League summit.
The new deal is also expected to bring a substantial rise in salary. Arteta’s existing package is believed to be worth around £10 million annually, with bonuses capable of adding a further £5 million.
Throughout the negotiations, Arteta made clear that he remained committed to Arsenal and was comfortable continuing his work. Asked about his future last week, he sought to reassure supporters that there was no cause for concern.
“They [the fans] don’t have to worry about any of that because I want to be here. I’m extremely happy and I feel very grateful to work with the people I work with,” Arteta said.
