Ndume raises alarm over poor military equipment, demands rescue of 416 abducted in Borno

Ali Ndume, senator representing Borno South, has raised concerns over inadequate military equipment, warning that it is weakening Nigeria’s fight against insecurity.

Speaking during plenary at the senate on Wednesday, Ndume linked recent security setbacks to poor equipment, insufficient ammunition, and low morale among troops.

“The problem we had in all the locations, including the general that we lost, was because they didn’t have adequate equipment, ammunition, and, of course, motivation,” he said.

He noted that although measures are being introduced to address the challenges, authorities must act faster to improve conditions for security personnel.

Ndume also drew attention to the abduction of 416 women, children, and elderly persons in his constituency in Borno state.

He warned that the victims, currently held by Boko Haram, are facing a serious threat.

“They issued a warning that if nothing is done, they will disperse them and we may never find them again,” he said.

The lawmaker called on the national assembly and the presidency to take urgent steps to secure the release of the abductees.

He also urged his colleagues to support efforts aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s security response and addressing the humanitarian crisis in affected communities.
