Nigeria Reaffirms Partnership With India
Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with India ahead of key international engagements scheduled for 2026.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dunoma Ahmed, made this known during a meeting with India’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Abhishek Singh, in Abuja.
Focus on Trade, Investment and Development
Ahmed praised the long-standing relationship between both countries and stressed the need to deepen cooperation in strategic sectors.
He said Nigeria and India share democratic values and common goals centred on sustainable development and South-South cooperation.
According to him, Nigeria seeks stronger Indian investments in manufacturing, agriculture, mining, renewable energy, and local value addition.
Security Collaboration Takes Centre Stage
The Nigerian diplomat also called for improved collaboration in security and counter-terrorism efforts.
He highlighted the importance of technological partnerships and defence capacity building to address emerging security challenges.
Ahmed noted that the upcoming international meetings would create opportunities for stronger multilateral cooperation among developing nations.
BRICS, India-Africa Summit in Focus
Singh briefed the Nigerian delegation on preparations for the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting scheduled for May 14 to 15 at the Bharat Mandapam.
The India-Africa Forum Summit will also take place later in May in New Delhi.
The Indian envoy described Nigeria as a strategic partner and an important stakeholder in Africa.
Renewable Energy Partnership Expands
Singh highlighted ongoing cooperation under the International Solar Alliance and the Africa Solar Facility.
He said India plans to expand renewable energy investments and strengthen development partnerships with Nigeria.
The envoy added that India looks forward to Nigeria’s active participation in both the BRICS and India-Africa Forum meetings.
