Cristiano Ronaldo became the first footballer to score in six FIFA World Cups as Portugal secured a dominant victory over Uzbekistan.
Portugal produced a commanding performance to beat Uzbekistan 5-0 in Group K of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice, making history as the first player to find the net in six different World Cup tournaments.
The 41-year-old opened the scoring after just six minutes and added a second before halftime. Nuno Mendes doubled Portugal’s lead with a direct free-kick, while an own goal from goalkeeper Abduvohid Nematov and a late strike from Rafael Leao completed the rout.
Ronaldo’s first goal also made him the second-oldest player to score at a World Cup, behind Cameroon legend Roger Milla. The brace took his World Cup tally to 10 goals and saw him surpass Eusebio as Portugal’s all-time top scorer at the tournament.
Portugal responded strongly after criticism following their opening 1-1 draw against DR Congo. The win moves Roberto Martinez’s side to the top of Group K, although Colombia could overtake them with a victory over DR Congo.
Ronaldo’s record-breaking performance comes just days after Lionel Messi became the World Cup’s all-time leading scorer with 18 goals.
Portugal will face Colombia in their final group match, while Uzbekistan take on DR Congo as both teams battle for qualification.
