No clear path for Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, says ex-lawmaker Sergius Ogun

Sergius Ogun

Sergius Ogun, a former lawmaker who represented Esan North-East/Esan South-East federal constituency, says President Bola Tinubu does not have a clear path to re-election in 2027 if the polls are free and fair.

Ogun spoke during an interview with Symfoni TV while assessing the prospects of leading presidential contenders.

The former lawmaker said Rotimi Amaechi’s emergence as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate strengthens the ADC ticket.

However, he argued that Amaechi cannot deliver Rivers State to Atiku.

“I don’t see Rotimi Amaechi, even as a running mate to Atiku, delivering Rivers state to Atiku,” he said.

Ogun also dismissed suggestions that Atiku could dominate the south.

Instead, he said the former vice-president would struggle to win support across the region.

“I don’t see anybody voting for Atiku in the South,” he said.

According to Ogun, Atiku’s decision to contest the 2023 presidential election despite calls for power to shift south triggered the crisis that engulfed the PDP.

OBI IS THE STRONGEST CANDIDATE

Furthermore, Ogun described Peter Obi as the strongest candidate in the South-East and South-South.

He said Obi would win both regions if the election is free and fair.

“Peter Obi, any day, will win the south-east and the south-south,” he said.

Ogun also predicted that Obi would secure substantial votes in parts of the north, including Kaduna.

Meanwhile, he said Rabiu Kwankwaso remains a major political force in Kano and Jigawa states.

Asked whether Tinubu could secure a second term despite the backing of governors, senators and other political officeholders, Ogun said the credibility of the election would determine the outcome.

“Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the president of Nigeria today, does not have a pathway to go back to the villa unless they do otherwise,” he said.

He urged the government to guarantee free, fair and credible elections.

“Allow for free, fair, credible election so that Nigerians can decide who they will elect,” Ogun said.

The former lawmaker also expressed confidence in Obi’s leadership ability.

He said an Obi presidency would strengthen accountability and improve compliance with the rule of law.

According to him, Obi’s emphasis on transparency would influence public institutions and public officials.
