A 55-year-old voter, Sharafa Lasisi, has appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, after the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System failed to recognise his face during the Osun State governorship election.
Lasisi made the appeal on Saturday while trying to vote at Polling Unit 006, Ward 04, in the Isale/Oke-Afo area of Ikirun, Ifelodun Local Government Area.
According to the voter, he made several attempts to complete the facial verification process but the BVAS machine could not recognise him. Election officials reportedly blamed the problem on network issues and asked him to return later.
Voter returns but problem persists
Lasisi said he followed the officials’ advice and left the polling unit. However, he returned later only to face the same difficulty.
Explaining his situation, the 55-year-old voter appealed to INEC to intervene so he could cast his ballot.
He said, “My name is Sharafa Lasisi. I am from Alamisi Unit 6, and i’m 55 years old. I have been to where they are supposed to verify my face but they said the network isn’t letting the verification go through.”
Lasisi added, “They said I should go and eat at home. I went and came back and it still didn’t go through. I want them to help me so I will be able to cast my vote also.”
The incident occurred as voters continued to turn out at polling units across Osun State for the governorship election. Lasisi urged the electoral authorities to address the issue and allow him to exercise his right to vote.
