Sadio Mané has been putting a significant part of his success into projects designed to create jobs, improve services and build economic opportunities in his home community of Bambali, Senegal.
The Senegalese football star has invested in several areas beyond football, including education, healthcare, community infrastructure and agriculture. His latest project, SM10 Agro, marks a shift towards large-scale productive investment. Launched in Bambali in September 2026, SM10 Agro is an agro-industrial project valued at 11.7 billion CFA francs. It will cover about 500 hectares and focus heavily on mango production and processing.
The project plans to establish around 78,000 mango trees and process between 8,500 and 10,500 tonnes of mangoes annually, depending on the source and final production capacity. The facilities are expected to produce mango pulp, dried mango and mango butter. More than 1,000 direct jobs are expected at the start, with the project targeting as many as 2,500 jobs over time.
For Mané, the project is also about addressing a problem affecting farmers in the Sédhiou region. He said the area loses an estimated 30% to 40% of its mango production because of inadequate storage and processing facilities. By bringing processing closer to farms, the project aims to retain more value within the region.
SM10 Agro will also include a training centre and research and development facilities. The training component is intended to give young people and women opportunities to gain agricultural skills.
Prior Contributions
The agro project builds on Mané’s earlier contributions to Bambali. Reports have linked him to a range of community projects, including:
- A secondary school
- A modern healthcare facility
- A mosque
- Local football pitches
- Internet (4G) coverage
- A bakery
He has also supported students and families in the community.
These investments give another dimension to Mané’s public profile. His football career took him from Bambali to some of Europe’s biggest clubs, but his spending at home has increasingly focused on infrastructure and opportunities that can remain after his playing career.
SM10 Agro, in particular, represents an attempt to move beyond charitable support and build an economic venture around local agriculture. If the project delivers on its planned jobs, processing capacity and training programmes, its impact could extend beyond Mané’s hometown. It could also provide farmers with a stronger local market for their produce while creating new opportunities in processing, transport and related services.
