The deaths come amid renewed military exchanges between the United States and Iran in the Gulf region.
Three Indian sailors have been confirmed dead after a US strike hit the Palau-flagged oil tanker. This happened off the coast of Oman, according to India’s Shipping Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal. The vessel was carrying 24 Indian crew members, 21 of whom were rescued following the attack.
The US military said it targeted the tanker after accusing it of violating an American blockade. According to US Central Command, precision munitions were fired into the ship’s engine room after the crew allegedly failed to comply with instructions from US forces.
The incident occurred as the US and Iran exchanged strikes for a second consecutive day, raising concerns about the stability of a fragile ceasefire agreed in April. Despite the escalation, reports indicate that diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran are continuing. The negotiations are focused on the release of frozen Iranian funds.
India has condemned the attack and lodged a formal protest with US officials, while authorities continue monitoring maritime security incidents.
