President Bola Tinubu has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle, removing Wale Edun as minister of finance and appointing Taiwo Oyedele as his replacement.
In a statement issued by the office of the secretary to the government of the federation, George Akume said Edun has been directed to hand over to Oyedele, who will now serve as minister of finance and coordinating minister of the economy.
Oyedele was previously minister of state in the ministry.
The reshuffle also affected Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, minister of housing and urban development, who has been asked to leave the federal executive council.
Akume said Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been nominated as minister-designate for the housing and urban development ministry.
He added that Dangiwa will hand over to the minister of state in the ministry pending Darma’s confirmation.
The statement directed that all handover processes be completed on or before April 23, 2026.
Akume said the changes are aimed at strengthening coordination within the cabinet and improving delivery on the government’s economic agenda.
“These changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion and synergy in governance, as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians,” he said.
He added that the president exercised his constitutional powers under sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 constitution (as amended) in effecting the reshuffle.
Tinubu thanked the outgoing ministers for their service and wished them well in their future endeavours.
The president also assured cabinet members that the process of repositioning the government would continue.
