Americans in Africa exposed to Ebola will be sent to Kenya facility, White House says

The U.S. government says Americans exposed to Ebola in Africa will be treated at a new medical facility in Kenya.

The White House confirmed plans to establish a “state-of-the-art” Ebola treatment and quarantine facility in Kenya for Americans exposed to the virus during the ongoing outbreak in Central Africa.

According to U.S. officials, the facility is being developed through a joint effort involving the Departments of State, Health and Human Services, and Defense. The goal is to provide rapid medical care for Americans in affected regions, without requiring long emergency flights back home.

Officials said the center will be equipped to handle severe Ebola cases, including critical care treatment. Patients may still be transferred to the U.S. for advanced care if necessary. The move comes as health experts warn the current Ebola outbreak is spreading faster than response efforts can contain it.

The U.S. has already tightened travel restrictions and health screenings for travelers arriving from affected countries.

The International Rescue Committee recently warned that the outbreak could become one of the deadliest Ebola crises on record.
