Xi Jinping warned Donald Trump that tensions over Taiwan could lead to conflict if handled improperly.
Xi Jinping warned Donald Trump that the United States and China could “come into conflict” over Taiwan during a high-stakes summit in Beijing.
The warning came during a meeting that lasted more than two hours as both leaders discussed Taiwan, trade, technology, Iran, and economic cooperation. According to Chinese state media, Xi described Taiwan as the most sensitive issue in US-China relations and said stability depends on how both countries handle the matter.
Trump later described the talks as “positive and productive.”
The White House said both sides also agreed that the Strait of Hormuz should remain open amid growing tensions linked to the Iran conflict. Discussions additionally covered trade, fentanyl, energy security, and increased Chinese purchases of American farm products.
The summit comes at a critical time for both countries as tensions continue over Taiwan, tariffs, artificial intelligence, and military influence in the Indo-Pacific region. China also remains a major buyer of Iranian oil, making the Iran war another key issue during the talks.
The Beijing meeting is expected to play a major role in shaping future US-China relations and global economic stability.
