Zelensky To Urge NATO for Air Defence Systems After Deadly Russian Strikes

Ukraine’s president is set to seek stronger military support as Russia intensifies missile attacks on Kyiv.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will press NATO allies to provide more air defence systems at this week’s summit in Turkey after deadly Russian missile strikes hit Kyiv twice in less than a week, killing more than 50 civilians.

Zelensky is also expected to meet US President Donald Trump, where he will argue that Russia’s renewed attacks show Moscow is under pressure rather than gaining strength. He has called for additional Patriot missile systems and greater support to protect Ukrainian cities from ballistic missile attacks.

The appeal comes as Ukraine increases long-range drone strikes on Russian oil facilities and military targets, disrupting fuel supplies and exposing weaknesses in Russia’s air defence network. Meanwhile, Russia has continued large-scale missile and drone attacks across Ukraine.

Zelensky says stronger air defences remain essential if Ukraine is to protect civilians and push Russia toward meaningful peace negotiations.
