Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady, released messages to Christians and Muslims. She did this as both Lent and Ramadan started on the same day. Tinubu urged Nigerians to pray for the nation’s peace and prosperity. The messages came amid religious observances that began on Wednesday.
Lenten Message Promotes Reflection
Tinubu addressed Christians during Lent. She described the period as one for spiritual growth and self reflection. “As we begin this Lenten period, I pray this time of spiritual growth, self-reflection, and drawing closer to God is committed to following Christs example of love,” Tinubu stated.
Moreover she encouraged acts of compassion. “May our prayers and acts of compassion and kindness deepen our faith and reflect on our relationships with others,” she added.
Tinubu also called for national prayers. “I urge us to remember to pray for the peace and prosperity of our dear nation Nigeria,” she said. She ended with well-wishes. “I wish us all a blessed and fulfilled Lenten season,” Tinubu concluded.
Ramadan Greetings Focus on Fulfillment
In a separate message, Tinubu congratulated Muslims. “I felicitate with the Muslim faithful as you commence this blessed month of Ramadan,” she said.
She prayed for personal and national benefits. “I pray this Holy month bring you and your family and the nation as a whole, peace, joy, and spiritual fulfilment,” Tinubu stated.
Additionally she emphasized prayers during fasting. “During this holy month of fasting and prayers, I urge us all to remember our beloved nation in prayers for greater peace and prosperity,” she urged. Tinubu sought divine intervention.
“May Almighty Allah accept all our supplications, forgive all our sins and answer all our prayers,” she prayed. She closed warmly. “Ramadan Kareem,” Tinubu added.
Confirmation of Ramadan Start
Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto, confirmed the moon sighting. He declared Wednesday as the first day of Ramadan. Saudi authorities announced the same earlier. This alignment with Ash Wednesday marked a rare coincidence for both faiths.
Unity in Observance
Tinubu’s calls highlighted interfaith harmony. Nigerians observed the seasons with fasting and reflection. Her messages reached the public through social media. Busola Kukoyi, her media aide, shared them on X. The appeals aimed to foster national unity.
