Rescue teams have located the bodies of the remaining divers who disappeared inside a deep underwater cave system in the Maldives.
Divers Alert Network Europe said specialist rescue divers located the bodies of the four remaining victims during an operation near the Dhekunu Kandu dive site in Vaavu Atoll on Monday morning.
According to the organization, a three-member dive team spent about three hours underwater exploring the cave system, assessing conditions and gathering information needed for the recovery mission.
The victims were part of a group of five Italian divers who went missing while exploring the underwater cave last week. Authorities had already recovered one body earlier, while a Maldives military diver also died during rescue efforts.
DAN Europe described the upcoming recovery process as “highly delicate” and said operations would continue in coordination with the Maldives National Defence Force and Italian authorities.
The tragedy has drawn international attention to the dangers of deep cave diving, especially in complex underwater environments with limited visibility and narrow passages.
