President Bola Tinubu has condemned the reported killing of one of the teachers abducted during an attack on schools in Oyo State.
In a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to the president on information and strategy, Tinubu described the attack as barbaric and directed security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the remaining victims.
Last Friday, gunmen invaded the Esiele community in Oriire local government area of Oyo state, killing two persons and abducting pupils, students, and teachers from Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School.
Reacting to the development, the president expressed sadness over the reported death of one of the abducted teachers.
“I am saddened by the reported killing of one of the teachers kidnapped by the gunmen who invaded the community,” Tinubu said.
The president sympathised with Seyi Makinde, the government and people of Oyo state, as well as families of the victims.
RESCUE UNDER WAY
He also assured residents that the federal government would collaborate with the state government to rescue those still in captivity.
“The federal government is working with the Oyo state government to rescue all the victims,” he said.
Tinubu commended the Inspector-General of police and the commissioners of police in Oyo and Kwara states for deploying tactical and intelligence teams for the operation.
“The IGP, following my instructions, is personally leading the tech-driven operation,” he said.
“We expect a breakthrough soon.”
The president vowed that those behind the attack and their collaborators would face justice.
“The bandits and all their local collaborators will be fished out and made to face the full wrath of the law,” he added.
Tinubu also renewed his call for the establishment of state police, arguing that growing insecurity highlights the need for decentralised policing.
“Cases of kidnapping further make imperative the establishment of state police to man some of our underserved areas,” he said.
“The National Assembly should accelerate the enactment of the law creating state police.”
