Nigeria’s 2027 AFCON qualifiers opponents revealed

The Super Eagles now know their opponents on the road to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have been drawn alongside Tanzania, Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau in the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

Nigeria will aim to secure qualification after finishing third at the last AFCON tournament and ending as runners-up in the 2023 edition. Other notable groups include hosts Morocco facing Gabon, Niger and Lesotho, while Senegal were grouped with Mozambique, Sudan and Ethiopia.

The 2027 AFCON is scheduled to take place in East Africa, with CAF president Patrice Motsepe insisting the tournament will go ahead despite concerns over preparations. Meanwhile, South Africa, Botswana, Namibia and Zimbabwe have submitted a joint bid to host the 2028 edition.

CAF has also confirmed that from 2028, the Africa Cup of Nations will switch from a two-year cycle to a four-year tournament schedule.
