Wizkid sets new Spotify record

Nigerian Afrobeats singer, Wizkid, has become the first African artist to surpass 11 billion streams on Spotify across all credits.

Music data platform ChartsAfrica announced the milestone on Tuesday through a post shared on X.

The platform highlighted Wizkid’s dominance on the streaming platform, noting that he remains the first African artist to reach several major Spotify milestones.

“First African artists to reach major Spotify milestones. One billion — Wizkid. Two billion — Wizkid. Ten billion — Wizkid. Eleven billion — Wizkid,” the post stated.

New collaboration boosts streaming numbers

The achievement follows the recent release of State of Mind, Wizkid’s collaboration with DJ Tunez.

The song dropped on May 15, 2026, and recorded more than 685,000 global Spotify streams within its first full day.

Music fans and supporters also flooded social media with reactions celebrating the accomplishment.

One X user described Wizkid as an “era-defining artist,” saying the milestone reflects the global growth of Afrobeats music.

Another fan predicted that the singer could reach 12 billion streams before the end of the year.

Fans celebrate Afrobeats global success

Several fans praised Wizkid’s influence on African music worldwide.

Some described him as a pioneer who continues to expand Afrobeats’ global reach, while others referred to him as one of the greatest African artists of his generation.

The latest record adds to Wizkid’s growing list of international achievements.

Earlier in January 2026, the Grammy-winning singer became the first African act to reach 10 billion Spotify streams.
